Our missions focus locally as well as globally is all about discipling nations through being the light in our world.
Through Empower Australia, we serve our local communities through our Food Relief Centres, Conversational English Classes and our Christmas Appeal. Through last year’s Christmas Appeal, we gave away over 5,000 gifts to those in need. We currently provide food support to over 1,300 people weekly, with an average of 150 new recipients every week. Since 2020, we have had the privilege of giving away 3 million meals! Tens of thousands of people have been blessed not just by food essentials, but also by being welcomed into a community where they can find belonging and support. Empower Cape Town has also rapidly expanded in reach, giving away over 10,000 food parcels and reaching over 35,000 people with food support.
As part of our vision to be one of the biggest contributors to charity in our city, through Empower, we have given away over $300,000 to causes, including the Good Friday Appeal.
In the Pacific region, we continue to grow in impact through Believe projects and initiatives. The first Believe Community Hub in the Gazelle District is up and running, with weekly programs running, including our Kids Club, which sees over 200 children attend every time! We have also started a Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) pilot program, designed to help high school drop-outs with intensive teaching sessions so that they can still further their education. In a community where only 60% of students finish high school through their formal system, FODE is crucial. This year, we are working with the Provincial Health Authority to open an antenatal clinic in our facility to assist with maternal health and neonatal care. We also look forward to opening a second Community Hub in Kupiano and breaking ground on a third site in June.
The Believe Institute is expanding rapidly with the Future Leaders Program being implemented in 12 schools across 2 provinces this year–over 7,000 high school students will complete our program this year! Our Future Leaders Conferences now take place in two provinces in Papua New Guinea and we are launching our first one in Fiji in August. We are so thankful for this unique opportunity to speak into the mindsets of the next generation in such a broad and systematic way.
Planetshakers Port Moresby is growing all the time, as we believe for a great revival across the city. Services are full to the brim, and we are trusting God for a larger venue to house His people.
We are sending missions teams to Fiji again this year and holding national outdoor events in Lautoka and Suva. We believe that we truly can disciple nations as we partner together for the cause of Christ.
Another great building initiative in the last 12 months has been our new kids area–PlanetKids Inflatable City–which has been a tremendous blessing to some of our youngest Planetshakers and a new outreach opportunity for many of our families. Our Empower space is also being upgraded to increase our capacity to serve those in need of food support, providing a first class experience to all.
We continue to believe for permanent spaces for our North and South-East campuses, as well as in Singapore and Port Moresby. In this Year of Abundance, we believe for supernatural miracles of provision that will not only provide a physical space but also increase our influence and capacity to serve our city.
This year, Planetshakers had our “Show Me Your Glory” Asia and Middle East Tour, including Cebu, which saw over 26,000 people come through the outdoor event gates! This was the largest amount of tickets we have ever sold for a single-night event! Your giving enabled us to sow into the Philippines by pricing tickets very reasonably, allowing as many people as possible to come and encounter Jesus.
Having outgrown our own building in South Africa, we moved the conference to a new venue this year and ran our largest Cape Town gathering ever, with over 3,500 people attending. After last year’s sold-out Conference, we are back in Malaysia in July again and on track to be completely full.
It has been 27 years since the start of Planetshakers Conference and the encounters with God have only gone from glory to glory. We are so thankful that what began as a gathering of young people in Adelaide in 1997 has grown to be a movement touching nations all over the world.
