DAY 3 – Igniting Praise & Worship

One of the most powerful ways to stir up our hunger for God is through our praise and worship. Sometimes our hunger can be hindered by atmospheres of heaviness or thoughts of negativity and discouragement. It can be difficult to hunger after God when we are overwhelmed by the cares of this world and focused on life’s problems. Let’s be honest, often we don’t feel like seeking God in those moments!

However, when we choose to praise and worship God, whether we feel like it or not, it changes the atmosphere around us. The story of Mary in John 12 is an incredible example of the power of worship. Mary brought what was precious to her as a sacrifice of worship before Jesus and, “the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil” (John 12:3). She used an entire pound of costly, perfumed oil! The aroma would have been unmistakable and all who were in that atmosphere would have been affected by it.

Like Mary’s perfume, when we praise and worship, the sounds of our adoration towards God and our declaration of who He is fills the air and everyone around us is impacted. Atmospheres turn from fear to faith, from depression to joy and from discouragement to hope!

When we declare the goodness of God and speak life over every situation, our hunger for God is stirred and our fire of faith is stoked. In that moment, our circumstances may not have changed, but our hunger and faith have shifted, and that makes all the difference.

Perhaps you have been wondering how you can continue to grow in your hunger for God. Let me encourage you to take time every day to praise and worship Him. You may think you’re a terrible singer, but it doesn’t matter! However your voice sounds, declare His goodness over your life and express your love towards Him passionately. Besides, if you put the music on loud enough, no one will hear you!
