God has a way of calling the unlikely, the overlooked, and the underestimated. Just like David, who was found watching sheep when Samuel came with the oil, you may feel hidden or forgotten. But heaven declares a different word over you today: You are the one.
In 1 Samuel 16, Samuel arrives at Jesse’s house with a horn of oil. One by one, Jesse’s sons stand before the prophet, but the oil will not pour. Finally, David, the youngest, is called in from the fields. The Lord speaks clearly: “Arise, anoint him, for this is the one” (1 Samuel 16:12).
God’s anointing does not follow human protocol. Others may overlook you, but God has already marked you. What is within you is about to be released through His Spirit.
David was anointed in the presence of his brothers, yet he returned to the field. The lesson is clear—can you remain faithful in the now even when you know you are called to more? Every season of assignment requires a season of alignment. God shapes, adjusts, and matures us so that when our moment comes, we are ready.
Like David, who fought lions and bears in private, the Lord is preparing you in hidden places for public victories. “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion” (Philippians 1:6).
When Goliath taunted Israel for forty days, David stepped forward with one question: “Is there not a cause?” (1 Samuel 17:29). He didn’t rely on Saul’s armour or the weapons of others, but on what God had already given him. An ordinary sling and stone, anointed by God, became a supernatural weapon.
Your giant may not fall by someone else’s armour. Comparison will cripple you, but obedience will carry you. Stay faithful to what God has placed in your hands, and watch Him turn it into victory.
Later in David’s journey, God gave him new strategies against familiar enemies (2 Samuel 5:22–25). The sound of wind in the mulberry trees signalled that the Lord had arrived. That same Spirit-breath that raised dry bones in Ezekiel’s vision (Ezekiel 37:9–10), and that filled the disciples in Acts 2, is alive in you today.
When you lift your voice in worship, heaven shifts. Giants fall. Chains break. And God reminds you again: You are the one.
David’s story reminds us that giants are not there to destroy us but to propel us into the next season. What God has started in your life, hell cannot stop. You may feel hidden in the field, overlooked by others, or disqualified by your past—but God’s word over you is sure: You are the one.
Father,
Thank You that You see us when others overlook us. Thank You for the anointing and purpose You have placed on our lives. Align us in this season, strengthen us in the battles we face, and remind us daily that we are called, chosen, and equipped.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
