Who are you?

It is a simple question, but it reaches deeper than we often realise. If everything was stripped back, what would be left? Not what you do. Not what family you come from. Not what you have achieved. Not what people have said about you.

The real question is: where do you position yourself?

If we are children of God, then we are in Christ. We are not just called to know that as a statement, but to live in it. We are called to go into the world and make disciples, as Jesus said in Matthew 28:19. But we cannot do that by living in our own strength. We live it out by being in Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and secure in who God says we are.

To live a life in Christ, you have to get your mind right.

What are your thoughts doing? What is going on up there? Do you look at your life like a movie review, rating every season by how good or bad it felt? Do you look at a hard season and decide, “I never want to go back there”? Or do you trust what God and His Word say about your life?

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.”

The world is full of fear, hate, separation, comparison, and pressure. It teaches people to expect the worst, prepare for the worst, and live from a place of fear. But that is not how we are called to live. We are called to have our minds renewed by the Word of God.

Our thoughts are powerful. They can shape how we walk through a situation. If we constantly believe the worst possible outcome, it can produce a defeated position in our heart. We start saying, “This is just who I am,” or “This is just my family,” or “This is just the life I live.”

But we have a choice. We can choose to believe the lies, or we can choose to let the Word of God renew our minds. If you want a renewed mind, you need to get into the Word of God. That is where you begin to understand the promises God has for you.

Living in Christ means living according to the promises of God.

The Bible speaks clearly about who we are in Christ. We are not left guessing. We are not meant to build our identity on opinions, labels, family pressure, status, money, mistakes, or performance. We are called to stand on what God has already said.

In Christ, you are accepted. Ephesians 1:5-6 reminds us that we have been adopted through Jesus Christ, according to God’s pleasure and grace.

You are God’s child. You are an heir of God. You are Christ’s friend. You have been justified. You are united with the Lord and one spirit with Him. You have been bought with a price. You belong to God. You are a member of Christ’s body. You are a saint. You have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit.

You have been redeemed and forgiven of all your sins. You are complete in Christ. You are secure. Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:39 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

You have been established, anointed, and sealed by God. You are hidden with Christ in God. You can be confident that the good work God began in you will be completed. You are a citizen of heaven. You have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind, as 2 Timothy 1:7 says.

You can find grace and mercy in your time of need. You are born of God. You are significant. You are the salt and light of the earth. You are a branch of the true vine. You are chosen and appointed to bear fruit. You are God’s temple. You are a minister of reconciliation. You are God’s co-worker. You are seated with Christ in heavenly places. You are God’s workmanship. You can approach God with freedom and confidence. You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength, as Philippians 4:13 says.

That is who you are in Christ.

This identity is not based on how good we are. It is based on how good He is.

It is not based on how well you perform. It is not based on your background, status, money, appearance, or family name. It is not based on your own bloodline. It is based on the blood of Jesus and the price He paid for us.

Because of His unbelievable love, His unconditional love, we have access to this life in Him. We find freedom in Christ. We find breakthrough in Christ. We find liberty, healing, belonging, and purpose in Christ because of what Jesus has done on the cross and because He rose again.

That means when you feel like you need belonging, you can declare, “I belong to God.&dquo; When shame tries to define you, you can declare, “I have been redeemed and forgiven.” When self-worth becomes a battle, you can declare, “I am God’s workmanship.”

Ephesians 2:10 says we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. That word carries the idea of being God’s crafted work, His masterpiece. You are not an accident. You are not a mistake. You are made by God and for God.

So often, we do not struggle because we have never heard the truth. We struggle because we forget who we are.

Pressure comes from everywhere. Pressure from family. Pressure from others. Pressure from ourselves. Pressure to make enough money, get the right job, achieve the right marks, get married, have children, succeed, and prove ourselves.

Good stewardship matters. We should steward what God has given us and work with the favour and blessing He has placed on our lives. But it starts from being seated with Christ, not striving to prove ourselves.

Acts 17:28 says, “In him we live and move and have our being.”

We do not live by our own metric and then turn to God only when things go wrong. Every day, we belong to Him. We are not our own. We are not simply what we make of ourselves. We are who we are in Him.

That is a position of victory. That is a position of security.

When you are struggling, do not run away from God.

Do not try to work everything out in your own strength. Do not hide. Do not let the enemy’s lies tell you that because you messed up, you do not deserve healing, freedom, grace, or restoration.

Hebrews 4:16 says we can come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

If your identity is built on what you can make of yourself, your mistakes become a heavy burden. But if your identity is in Christ, then when the lies come, you know where to run. You run to Him.

You can say, “Here I am, Lord. I am struggling, but I know my breakthrough is in You. I know my miracle is in You. I know I will be healed. I know I will be set free. I know I will be transformed in my mind.”

Why? Because you are a child of God. You are a friend of God. You are accepted. You are anointed. You are adopted into Christ’s family. You are part of the body of Christ. Nothing can take His love away from you.

No lie of the enemy. No mistake. No circumstance. No thing that has happened to you.

You are His.

The challenge is simple: go and live your life in Christ.

Do not chase the desires of the world. Do not pursue the things that try to knock you sideways. Pursue what God has called you to do and who God has called you to be.

Psalm 103:1-5 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

That is how we live in Christ. We do not forget who the Lord is. We do not forget what He has done. We do not forget where our breakthrough, provision, miracle, healing, and freedom come from.

It all comes from the Lord.

If everything comes from God, then we can trust Him. Even when it has not happened yet, we can still rejoice. His promises are yes and amen, as 2 Corinthians 1:20 says. He is the lifter of our head. He is the One we run to.

To rely on the Word of God is one of the most freeing things we can ever experience. Even when the circumstance says it is impossible, the Word of God says nothing is impossible for those who believe. Even when sickness says one thing, the Word says that by His stripes we are healed, as Isaiah 53:5 declares.

So we hold on to His promises.

Who are you?

You are not what people have labelled you as. You are not your past. You are not your pressure. You are not your mistakes. You are not what you can produce in your own strength.

You are a child of God.

That is something to celebrate. That is something to stand on. That is something to declare over your life. Because if you are a child of God, then you can live in Christ, pray in faith, walk in freedom, and trust every promise of His Word.

Do not listen to the lie that you are not good enough. Do not listen to the lie that you cannot receive freedom. In Christ, there is purpose. In Christ, there is new life. In Christ, there is victory.

Today is the day to position yourself again and say, “I am His.”
