Perfect Love (My Father’s Love)

Perfect love is not defined by what we see in the world, but by the Father’s love revealed through Jesus. His love is complete, unconditional, and powerful, and when we receive it fully, it drives out fear, heals our hearts, and transforms our lives from the inside out.

Sermon Notes

When we talk about love, we often picture something shaped by what we have seen, experienced, or even imagined. For many of us, our understanding of love comes from movies, relationships, or cultural ideas of what “perfect love” looks like.

But today, we are not talking about that kind of love.

We are talking about perfect love.
The love of the Father.

What Is Perfect Love?

The Bible gives us a clear picture of what perfect love truly is.

1 John 3:1 says:
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.”

This is not a small love. It is a lavish love. A love that calls us sons and daughters.

Jesus also reminds us of the Father’s care:

Matthew 6:26:
“Look at the birds… your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”

Matthew 7:11:
“How much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him?”

Matthew 18:14:
“It is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.”

This is perfect love. A love that sees you, values you, and never lets you go.

The World’s Version of Love

If we are honest, many of us have formed our idea of love from what we see around us.

Movies, relationships, and culture often present a version of love that looks attractive but is not real. We see “perfect couples”, “relationship goals”, and stories that make us think love is about having the right person, the right life, or the right situation.

But that is not perfect love.

That is a man-made picture of love.

True love is not found in people, circumstances, or culture.
Perfect love is found in one place and one person alone.

His name is Jesus.

The Nature of the Father’s Love

God is love. And because He is perfect, His love is perfect.

Perfect love is:

  • Complete, flawless, and unlimited
  • Divine, eternal, holy, and unchanging
  • Sacrificial and unconditional
  • Peaceful, restful, and sustaining

There are no conditions to His love. It is not based on what we do or how well we perform.

Romans 5:8 reminds us:
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

That is the love of the Father.

His love sustains us. It restores our soul, heals our hearts, and renews our lives. Many of us can testify that when we encountered this love, we were never the same again.

Perfect Love in Us

The Bible describes what this love looks like when it is at work in us:

  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Not envious
  • Not boastful
  • Keeps no record of wrongs
  • Rejoices in truth
  • Endures all things

We are not perfect, but we are being perfected in His love.

As we receive His love daily, we grow more like Jesus. It is not about striving. It is about abiding.

Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

1 John 4:16-18 says:
“God is love… and as we live in God, our love grows more perfect… There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.”

Fear and love cannot coexist.

Where the love of God is fully received:

  • Fear is driven out
  • Insecurity loses its hold
  • Lies are broken
  • Shame is removed

Perfect love expels fear completely.

Many of us face walls of fear, insecurity, or feelings of unworthiness. But these things rise up because love is trying to enter in.

And when we allow the Father’s love to fill us, those walls cannot stand.

Living in the Father’s Love

The invitation is simple.

Receive His love daily.

Wake up and say, “God, baptise me in Your love today.”

His mercies are new every morning.
His love is always available.

As we remain in His love, we are transformed.

We become people who no longer tolerate fear, but walk in confidence as children of God.

Perfect love is not something we achieve. It is something we receive.

It is the love of the Father.
A love that is strong, powerful, and unchanging.

As we step into this love, fear has no place, and our lives begin to reflect the heart of God.

Let us be a people fully immersed in His love.
Let it fill every part of our lives.

Because perfect love changes everything.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for Your perfect love.
Thank You that Your love is unconditional, powerful, and unchanging.

Today, we choose to receive Your love again.
Fill our hearts, renew our minds, and remove every fear.

Help us to live as Your children, confident and secure in who You are.

Let Your love flow in us, through us, and around us.

In Jesus' name,
Amen
