Moving Mountain Faith

This message unpacks what it means to have “Moving Mountain Faith”—faith that doesn’t rely on hype but flows from living under God's authority. Using stories from Scripture like Moses, David, Joshua, and Jesus, we see that mountains fall when faith and divine authority align. Forgiveness, intimacy with God, obedience, and bold action are key to activating this faith. The same power that raised Christ lives in us—and with it, we can move mountains for His glory.

Sermon Notes

Have you ever faced a situation that seemed completely impossible? Like a mountain standing between you and your destiny? Jesus teaches us that faith—real, raw, mountain-moving faith—can shift what looks immovable. But it's not just about believing; it's about recognising whose authority we stand under. Let’s dive into what it means to live under divine authority and carry the kind of faith that sees mountains move.

Jesus and the Withered Fig Tree

“Have faith in God... If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt... it will be done for them.” —Mark 11:22-23

One day, Jesus saw a fig tree with no fruit and spoke to it—by the next day, it had withered from the roots. He used this as a teaching moment, showing us the power of faith-filled words under divine authority. The fig tree wasn’t just about hungering after God—it was about authority, and what happens when we speak with faith that is rooted in God.

What Is Your Mountain?

“You can say to this mountain…”

Mountains represent obstacles—whether it’s sickness, fear, rejection, addiction, or a financial burden. In the Bible, we see:

  • Moses at the Red Sea: he obeyed, and the waters parted.
  • Joshua at Jericho: he shouted, and the walls fell.
  • David before Goliath: he declared, “I come in the name of the Lord.”

Each faced something bigger than them, but faith under divine authority brought breakthrough.

Close to God, Far from Doubt

“You must really believe… and have no doubt in your heart.”

How do you get rid of doubt? Stay close to God. When you worship, pray, and surround yourself with faith-filled people, your confidence grows. Doubt fades the closer you are to Him. Mountain-moving faith isn’t born from hype—it comes from intimacy with God.

Authority and Forgiveness Go Hand-in-Hand

“When you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them…” —Mark 11:25

To live under God’s authority, we must live in forgiveness—towards others, ourselves, and even towards God when life doesn’t go as expected. Unforgiveness blocks the flow of power in our lives. Faith can move mountains, but bitterness can rebuild them just as fast.

The Centurion Understood Authority

“I myself am a man under authority…” —Luke 7:8

The Roman centurion amazed Jesus with his understanding of authority. He said, “Just say the word.” That’s divine authority at work. Faith doesn’t beg; faith declares.

Living in God’s Purpose

“Now to Him who is able to carry out His purpose and do superabundantly more than all we dare ask or think...” —Ephesians 3:20 (AMP)/p>

Mountain-moving faith isn’t about getting what we want—it’s about living in God’s purpose. As we submit to His will, speak His truth, and walk in His power, we become carriers of His authority. That’s how we see the impossible bow to the name of Jesus.

Faith that moves mountains begins with surrender. It’s not about striving, shouting, or controlling—it’s about trusting and obeying. As we live under God's authority, we gain access to His power. So today, don’t just look at your mountain—speak to it. You don’t stand alone. You stand under divine authority, and that changes everything.

Prayer Father,

Thank you that we don’t have to rely on our strength, but on your authority. Help us draw close to you, to forgive, to believe, and to boldly speak your Word. Let our faith be mountain-moving, not for our own sake, but for your glory.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
