Because Jesus Lives

Because Jesus lives, we do not have to live defeated, fearful, or uncertain. The resurrection of Jesus is not just a truth to remember once a year. It is the foundation of our faith and the reason we can live with hope, walk in relationship with God, and face every circumstance with victory. Because He rose again, death is not the end, our future is secure, and our lives can be transformed today.

Sermon Notes

Resurrection Sunday reminds us that Christianity is not built on a dead idea, a distant memory, or a religious tradition. It is built on the risen Jesus. Because He is alive, everything changes. We are not left trying to make sense of life on our own. We are not abandoned in fear, darkness, or hopelessness. Jesus is alive, and because He lives, there is something real, powerful, and life-giving for us to celebrate today.

We Have a Living Hope

Because Jesus lives, we have a living hope.

1 Peter 1:3 says we are born again into a living hope. That means our hope is not fragile, temporary, or dependent on circumstances. It is alive because Jesus is alive. This hope is more than wishful thinking. It is a confident expectation of good. It gives us strength for today, confidence for tomorrow, and assurance for eternity.

The world around us is full of darkness, confusion, and uncertainty. There are many reasons people feel anxious about the future. But for those who are in Christ, there is always reason to hope. His name is Jesus. Because He is risen, we can trust that God is good, God is victorious, and God holds our future in His hands.

This living hope even reaches beyond death.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 reminds us that we will all be transformed, and those who have died in Christ will be raised to live forever. That changes everything. Death may be the great equaliser in this world, but it is not the end for those who belong to Jesus.

Without Jesus, people often respond to death in one of two ways. Some avoid thinking about it because it brings fear. Others try to accept it and simply live for the moment. But neither brings peace. Jesus offers a third way. We do not have to live fearful or depressed. We can live with a living hope because the grave did not have the final word.

Because Jesus rose again, we can say with confidence: death is not the end.

We Can Have a Living Relationship with God

Because Jesus lives, we can have a living relationship with God.

Jesus did not come to leave us with a moral example, a historical memory, or a religious system. He came to open the way for us to know God personally. He is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), and because He is alive, He invites us into a relationship that is real, active, and present.

This is not just about believing that Jesus existed or that the crucifixion happened. It is about knowing Him by experience.

Because He lives:

  • He answers prayer
  • He works miracles
  • He still changes lives
  • He speaks
  • He listens
  • He knows you by name
  • He has plans for your life
That is the beauty of the gospel. Jesus is not just remembered. He is present.

The resurrection is also one of the most compelling truths of the Christian faith. If Jesus had only died, His followers could have moved on, chosen another leader, or simply kept His memory alive. But that is not what happened. Within days, they were boldly declaring that He had risen from the dead. That is not a small claim. It is either outrageous or true. And the testimony of Scripture, the early church, and transformed lives across generations points to one reality: Jesus is alive.

Millions of believers can testify to the same truth. Lives have been turned around. Hearts have been changed. People who were once heading one direction have been made new through the power of Jesus. That is what happens when people encounter the risen Christ.

We Have a Life of Victory

Because Jesus lives, we have a life of victory.

This does not mean we never face hardship. We all know what it is to walk through valleys, battles, disappointments, and pain. But the resurrection means that none of those things have the final say. Jesus gives us victory on the mountain and in the valley. He gives us victory in the middle of diagnosis, struggle, grief, and uncertainty.

Jesus was not overpowered by Rome. He was not outplayed by religious leaders. He was not defeated by the grave. He is victorious.

As 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 declares:

O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?…
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Jesus can lead us into victory because He Himself is victorious. If you want to be led into freedom, healing, strength, and overcoming faith, you need a Saviour who has already overcome. Jesus has never lost a battle. He knows the way through because He has already won.

That means whatever you are facing today, you do not face it alone.

If there is a struggle in your health, a broken relationship, a private battle, or something that feels impossible to overcome, come to Jesus. The risen Saviour still brings victory. He still heals. He still restores. He still works miracles.

Because Jesus lives, victory is not just a future promise. It is a present reality for those who put their faith in Him.

The resurrection of Jesus leaves no room for half-hearted belief. Jesus did not present Himself as one option among many. He confronts every heart with a decision. Either the resurrection is ridiculous, or it is true. And if it is true, then everything is on the table.

If it is true, then there is living hope for your future.
If it is true, then there is relationship with God available to you.
If it is true, then there is victory for your life today.
If it is true, then broken things can be restored, lost things can be redeemed, and dead things can live again.

Because Jesus lives, there is more for you than fear. More for you than survival. More for you than religion. There is life, hope, relationship, and victory in His name.

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You that You are alive.

Thank You that because You live, we have hope, we can know God, and we can walk in victory. Strengthen every heart that feels weary, fearful, or uncertain today. Bring faith where there has been doubt, peace where there has been fear, and life where there has been heaviness.

Help us to trust You more deeply and live each day in the power of Your resurrection.

In Jesus' name,
Amen
