Living IN Divine Authority means we are set free from living as a victim in every area of our lives, including our own thoughts! We no longer need to be dominated by out-of-control thoughts but can rule over them instead.
Maybe this is a new idea to some of us, but we don’t have to put up with whatever thoughts enter our minds today. Like, we really don’t! Thoughts, imaginations, and ideas can be persistent and strong, but God has given us authority to take them captive and bring them under the Lordship of Jesus. Through His authority—and with practice—we can teach our minds to think the way God thinks.
The best way to do this is with the authority of God’s Word. Scripture is like the blueprint of God’s thinking that we can copy. As we read, meditate on, and memorise it, we are teaching our minds how to think His way. Then, when a thought enters our mind that doesn’t line up with that—such as something doubtful, fearful, or negative about ourselves—we are able to recognise it more easily and be free from it.
Sometimes, when I catch myself thinking something contrary to God’s way of thinking, I’ll clap my hands and say, “I reject that thought in Jesus’ name, get out of here!” There’s something about that little practice that snaps me out of one train of thought and realigns me with His truth.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the authority of Your word. Thank You that I don’t have to be a victim to negative thinking, but I can think the way that Jesus thinks. Help me to recognise every way in my mind that is at odds with Your mind.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
(Then, as the Holy Spirit does reveal things to you, say out loud, “I do not agree with that negative thought, but I take it captive in Jesus’ name! I agree with the Word of God!”)
