DAY 18: WE ARE INCLUDED IN THE FAMILY

Planetshakers Team 8 July 2025

Scriptures

Ephesians 1:13 NLT
And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
John 1:12 NLT
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

Devotion

As I was preparing to move to Australia 10 years ago by myself, one of my biggest questions was, “Am I going to make friends?” “Would I be able to find somewhere I belong?” I had no friends or family in Australia at the time, and the fear was paralysing me. Fast forward 10 years later, and I am now part of the biggest, best family I could ever have imagined!

But here’s what I’ve realised: what I experienced was not just about friendly faces or great connection. As vital as community is (and it truly is — we are not meant to do life alone), what changed everything for me was the deeper understanding that, in Christ, I was already part of a family. The moment we receive Jesus, we also become His family. As mentioned in John 1:12, He gives us the right to call ourselves His children. We are not just saved from something; we are saved into a new way of life!

This phrase “He gave the right…” speaks of His Divine Authority. It’s not a suggestion or temporary status. It is a legal, spiritual authority given by God Himself!

This means two things for us. First, our identity as sons and daughters is not up for debate. Secondly, when we live for Him, our identity as children of God comes from Him, not from emotions, people, or performance.

In God’s family, when He leads, we follow. When He speaks, we listen. When He corrects, we grow. In Him, we get to live in the wisdom, protection, discipline, and direction of a good Father. The truth is, being a “child of God” is a total identity shift. Understanding our position living IN Divine Authority helps shape how we live our daily lives and how we treat others.

Have there been moments when you have questioned your worth or your place in God’s family? Maybe you’ve walked through seasons in your life where you’ve felt unloved or unworthy. Whether you’ve been walking with Jesus for years or are just starting the journey, remember: you are not just invited into faith. In Him, you are adopted into the family — you are included!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible truth that in Christ, I am not just saved; I am adopted into Your family.

Heal the parts of my heart that still feel like an outsider, and I rebuke the lies of the enemy that try to isolate me. I declare that my identity is secure, not in what I do, but in who You say I am — Your beloved son/daughter. Thank You for calling me home.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen!
