Devotion
All authority begins with God the Father, the Creator of all things. Because He is the origin of life, nothing exists outside of His power or permission. His authority is unmatched; He is not only all-powerful (omnipotent), but also all-knowing (omniscient) and present everywhere at once (omnipresent). Every ruler, force, or power in the universe ultimately answers to Him.
This truth grounds us: we are not living under random or chaotic forces, but under the rule of a sovereign and good God. As it says in Matthew 28:18, Jesus has been entrusted with all of the Father’s authority. He is not just a messenger of God’s will; He is the embodiment of it. Jesus has authority over sin, sickness, death, nature, the spiritual realm, and our very lives. He is not one authority among many — He is the authority.
Think of it like a police officer: their badge and uniform represent the authority of the state. On their own, they’re simply a person, but when they operate under the covering of the law, they wield a power far greater than themselves.
Similarly, when we choose to live under God’s divine authority — an authority far more powerful than any president, king, or institution — we gain access to His divine power. We’re not just carrying our own strength; we walk in the authority of the One who holds all things together. This means trusting Him with our decisions, surrendering control, and following His lead. If Jesus has all authority, then every part of our lives should come under His rule.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that all authority belongs to You. I choose to come under Your rule today. Help me trust You fully and walk in Your power.
Lead me, strengthen me, and let my life reflect Your authority.
Amen.
