One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
A Heart That Longs for His Presence
There is a deep longing placed within the heart of every believer—a yearning for the person of the Holy Spirit. This longing is the hunger to know God intimately, to be near Him, and to live continually in His presence. David’s words in Psalm 27 express the cry for more of Him: “One thing I ask… this only do I seek.” His focus was singular. He wasn’t chasing comfort, status, or approval. He wanted God Himself.
Jesus echoed this invitation in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,” promising that everything else would follow. When we make the Lord our priority, everything else falls into its proper place. When Jesus is our source for everything, life becomes rich with purpose and clarity—unbridled by the things of this world
Jesus is the Anointed One. In Luke 4:18, Jesus proclaimed, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news…” He stood in the power of the Holy Spirit, declaring liberty, healing, and the favour of God. He is not just a teacher or prophet—He is the Anointed Son of God, full of grace and truth. Through Him, we receive not only salvation but the baptism of the Holy Spirit, empowering us to live boldly and walk in holiness.
Surrender and the Flow of Grace
Yet intimacy with God requires surrender. James 4:8 breaks it down for us: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Drawing near to God means coming with humility, laying down pride, fear, and distraction. Verse 10 continues, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” Surrender isn’t a one-time event—it’s a daily choice to yield every part of our lives to His Lordship. In Matthew 11:28–29, Jesus offers us rest by inviting us to lay down the weight of self-effort and take up His yoke: “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden… and you will find rest for your souls.” When we surrender, we make room for His peace. When we let go, we create space to receive His grace.
Grace is more than undeserved mercy—it’s divine power working in us and through us. It is by grace that we are saved, and it is by grace that we are sustained. Hebrews 4:16 invites us to come boldly to the throne of grace “to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This grace enables us to walk in the Spirit, to love the unlovable, to forgive deeply, and to stand firm in trials. Leaning into grace means learning to depend—not on our strength—but on the endless sufficiency of Christ.
As disciples of Jesus, we understand that grace is a living experience. It flows when we worship, when we pray in the Spirit, when we hear His voice and obey. And that worship is not confined to music or church buildings. Romans 12:1 reminds us that our whole lives are meant to be worship: “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your true and proper worship.” Every breath, every choice, every action can become an offering to the Lord.
An Invitation
I know all too well that there can be seasons we experience distractions by life or feel worn by trials. These are the moments Jesus, the Anointed One, calls us back. The Father’s arms remain open, inviting us to rest again in His presence. Through the song “Anointed One” we are reminded of this sacred invitation. The lyrics, “There’s one thing I ask for, one thing I seek—to dwell in Your presence, to look on Your face,” echo David’s heart in Psalm 27:4. With this song release, God is beckoning us to reprioritise His presence over everything else.
As we declare, “It’s You that I want, it’s You that I love,” we lay down the distractions and lift our eyes. Like Paul in Philippians 3:8, we begin to count everything else as loss compared to knowing Christ. The bridge becomes a moment of surrender: “I’m leaning in, I’m drawing closer; I’m letting go, Lord I surrender.” These aren’t just words—they’re an invitation to release and receive. Grace flows when we let go. Whatever season you find yourself in, let this song lead you back into dependence on Jesus. Let it reset your focus, refresh your love, and remind you that He is still enough.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with open hands and open hearts. We confess that we have often been pulled in many directions. Our attention has been divided, and we have allowed other things to capture our affection. But right now, we return to You. You are our one desire. You are the centre of our lives.
Jesus, we acknowledge You as the Anointed One, our Saviour, our Lord, our King. We surrender everything again—our plans, our pride, our striving. We lean into Your grace and let go of our burdens. Fill us afresh with Your Spirit. Awaken our hearts again. Restore our passion. Let every breath become worship and every step reflect Your glory.
We love You. We need You. We yield all to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
