Day 4: Home
One of the lines of this song says, “Your love advances, breaks my defences down”. What an incredible picture of God’s unconditional love for us, and how it is always relentlessly seeking us out, looking to break down any wrong mindsets we have and restore us. God wants us to know that as long as we are with Him, we can know that we are home. Safe and secure with our heavenly Father.
John 14:23 [NIV] “Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
1 John 3:1 [NIV] “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
When you think about the presence of God, do you feel at home? Ponder why this might or might not be the case. If so, maybe it’s a feeling of familiarity like that when an old friend enters the room, or maybe it’s a feeling of acceptance and warmth; a place where you can settle and relax. If not, what are the obstacles in your heart that are holding you back from entering His presence with reckless abandon? Let’s take some time to remember that God sees us as His own children and desires that we would be comfortable in His presence.
Think about your natural home. Is it a place where you have cultivated the presence of God? What are some things that make your home relaxing, comfortable, or a place where you desire to be? Ask God to help you translate these feelings into your relationship with Him. As you begin to love on Him more, listen to His voice and obey His teaching, He is faithful to come and make His home with you. What an incredible place to be!
