Devotion
In this third section of our devotion, we’re going to look at living with Divine Authority.
When we gave our lives to Jesus, everything changed. When we understand what it truly means to live under and in Divine Authority, we can embark on this journey of discovering what it means to live with Divine Authority. We will start to live, walk, and talk differently.
As believers, we sometimes forget the weight of the words we speak. The Bible is clear that our words matter. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.” This is not just a metaphor—it’s a spiritual reality! Words help shape the spiritual atmosphere around us.
We Pray with Authority
When you surrendered your life to Jesus, not only were you forgiven, but you were raised with Him and seated in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). This means that your prayers come from a place of partnership with Jesus Himself! Jesus said, “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it…” (John 14:13). That’s not a vague promise—it’s a bold invitation to pray with confidence and authority. When spoken in faith and aligned with God’s Word, our prayers release life, truth, and breakthrough.
We Speak with Authority
In the Bible, whenever Jesus spoke, something changed. Storms ceased, sickness fled, demons trembled, and life was restored. And He said that those who believe in Him would do even greater works (John 14:12). That includes how we speak. When you speak God’s Word over a situation, you are not sharing nice ideas—you are releasing truth and faith into the atmosphere. This isn’t about shouting louder; it’s about speaking in alignment with God’s will and nature.
Take a moment to reflect on the words you’ve spoken lately. Here are some questions you can consider:
- What kind of words have been coming out of your mouth?
- Have your words been filled with faith, or have they been heavy with fear, frustration, or doubt?
- Have your conversations built others up, or quietly torn them down?
- What have you been speaking over your own life, your future, your health, your family?
Let’s pause and ask the Holy Spirit to gently bring to mind any words we’ve spoken that may not have aligned with His truth or heart. And now, let’s allow the Holy Spirit to help us recalibrate our language—to shift from negativity to faith, from self-doubt to confidence in Christ, from idle words to words that bring life.
Prayer
Thank You, Jesus, that You have given me authority to pray boldly and speak with power.
Help me not to take my words lightly. Teach me to speak life, faith, and hope over myself, over others, and over every situation I face.
In Your name I pray,
Amen.
