Devotion
When we choose to follow Jesus, we’re not just believing in God—we’re stepping into His promises. One of these promises is found in Deuteronomy 28:13, where God says: “I will make you the head and not the tail. You’ll be on top, never at the bottom—if you listen to Me and follow My ways.”
God didn’t create us to live defeated, afraid, or overlooked. His desire is to lift you up, help you grow, and place you in positions of influence and purpose. But here’s the key: this promise comes when we learn to trust and follow Him, step by step, living in His Divine Authority.
You don’t have to try to be important or impress people. You just need to walk closely with God. He’s the One who will lift you up when the time is right.
Look at the life of Joseph. His own brothers turned on him—not just with words, but with actions that cut deep. They threw him away like he didn’t matter, selling him into slavery, stripping him of his home, his safety, and his future. Just when life seemed to settle, he was falsely accused and locked in a prison cell for something he didn’t do. It was dark. Lonely. Unfair. Everything in his life screamed, “forgotten,” “abandoned,” “bottom of the barrel.”
But Joseph didn’t let bitterness take root in his heart. Even in the pit and prison, he kept showing up faithfully and surrendered to God. God was working silently in the background, preparing him and positioning him. Until the day came when Joseph was pulled from the shadows and placed in charge of an entire nation—second only to Pharaoh himself.
Joseph didn’t just survive the suffering. He rose through it. He lived out God’s promise of being the head, not the tail. And his faithfulness didn’t just bless him, it saved countless lives.
Prayer
God, I want to trust Your promise. I choose to follow You, even when I don’t fully understand.
Help me to walk in the purpose You’ve created for me. Even when it feels like my life is at the bottom, help me to follow Your ways. I declare that I am the head and not the tail, above only and never below.
