Have you ever thought about how your physical positioning changes things?
I remember waking up at 3am once to join the lines for Boxing Day shopping—just to get first dibs on the best deals and to join the raffle for the first 100 people in line. Unfortunately for me, by the time I arrived, I was already at the back of the line. There were well over 100 people ahead of me! Because of my physical position at the back, what I saw and experienced was very different from those who were at the front.
But here’s the good news—God has positioned us in the best place possible!
This is what Ephesians 2:6 tells us: We are seated (1) with our Father in heavenly places and (2) in Christ Jesus.
This isn’t a “someday” promise we inherit after we graduate to heaven—this is our current position. It’s a position of intimacy and closeness, where even the softest whisper of your requests can be heard by God.
Even more, 1 Peter tells us that Christ is seated at God’s right hand. This is a position of honour and authority. That same passage declares that angels, authorities, and powers are in submission to Him.
So if we are seated in Christ, and Christ is seated at God’s right hand—guess what? You and I share in this incredible position! So when you pray and ask for anything in God’s name, understand that you are not asking from the position of a beggar, hoping to receive. You are positioned in Christ, in heavenly places, at the right hand of the Father.
Where in your life do you feel like you’re fighting for position? Is there anything you haven’t asked God for because you didn’t feel like you could? What would you pray for now, knowing your God-given position?
Prayer
God, thank You for the position You’ve given me. Help me identify the lies I’ve believed that have stopped me from fully receiving this truth, so I can live completely in this position of authority.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
