DAY 5: LIVING UNDER AUTHORITY LIKE JESUS

Scripture

So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.

Devotion

Jesus is the most supreme example of what it means to live under God’s authority. While He was here on earth, He made the choice to continually submit Himself to the Father’s will — even to the point of submitting Himself unto death on a cross. Jesus is modelling for us humility, submission, and dependency on the Father, acknowledging: “I can’t do anything without You, Father. I will only do what I see You show Me.”

Jesus shows us a higher way to live — a way that perhaps stands in opposition to how we currently live and make decisions. In my own life, I recognise there are areas where I can be so open and submitted to God’s way and authority. There is a great desire in my heart to only do what I see the Father doing in those areas. But I also know there are other parts of my life that still need to come under God’s authority — and that will only happen if I respond to this invitation from Jesus to walk in this higher way of living.

Today, would you join me in responding to this invitation from God — to bring all areas of your life under His authority? Allow the Holy Spirit to highlight the parts of your heart that you haven’t yet brought into submission and dependency on God.

Prayer

Lord, today I invite You into these areas that I’ve closed off to You, and I acknowledge — just like Jesus did — “I can do nothing without You! I want to do what You want!”

Thank You, Lord, that I am under Your authority and dependent on You. Your way is the best way!
