Devotion
To dwell means to remain, stay, or settle. Life constantly tries to pull us away — through busyness, fear, distraction, or disappointment. But Psalm 91:1 reminds us that those who choose to dwell under God’s authority — intentionally and consistently — will live under His shadow. His ‘shadow’ speaks of closeness, covering, and care. It is a place where fear loses its grip and striving is replaced with peace.
Picture standing under a large umbrella during a heavy storm. The rain is real, but you’re shielded. In Australia, Bunnings is known for its huge green umbrellas — strong, reliable, and ready for any weather. Likewise, God offers us a supernatural covering: His divine authority is like a heavenly umbrella that protects, provides, and brings peace in every season.
Too often, we carry our own umbrellas: fear, pride, independence, comparison, control. They might look impressive, but they can’t withstand life’s storms. Worse still, they can keep us from fully experiencing the power of God’s presence.
The question today is: Are you willing to close every other umbrella and come under His?
God’s covering isn’t temporary or flimsy; it’s complete and eternal. He’s not asking you to visit His presence, but to live there — not just to survive storms, but to walk through them in confidence and peace.
Today, choose to shut every false umbrella. Come under His. There, you’ll find rest, strength, and security for the journey ahead.
Prayer
God, today I decide to close every other umbrella in my life. I choose to come and dwell under Your covering.
Holy Spirit, help me not to get distracted by inferior coverings, but to fully trust the covering of Your divine authority.
Amen.
