Welcome to a journey of putting Jesus over everything and living a life of worship. This is the perfect place for us to start - by really focusing on knowing God personally. One of the greatest things we can believe is that we are known by God and that He wants to be known by us! He wants to invite you to get to know Him for yourself, by experience, based on what He says about Himself in the Bible.

I don’t know if you have ever thought about this or seriously asked yourself this question, but who do you really think God is? And don’t give me some smart answer of what you think you’re supposed to say. I mean, deep down in your heart, who is God to you? This question is actually really important because so many things in our lives are determined by our answer to it. I know who the Bible says God is and that who He is doesn’t change, but who He is to you will determine the way you live, the way you pray and the decisions you make.

In Matthew 16, Jesus asked His disciples a similar question: “Who do people say that I am?”

It’s like when the teacher asks you a question in class and it’s obvious they already know the answer. Jesus wasn’t asking because He didn’t know, and He wasn’t asking because He had identity issues or was feeling insecure and needed the squad to hype Him up. He didn’t need them to believe in Him so He could feel good about Himself. He knew exactly who He was, but He also knew that who He was ’to them’ changed everything for them. To some, He was just a good man, but to others, He was the Son of God. Who they knew Him to be determined the way that they received Him.

So, who is God to you? Think about it for a second, because you’re actually living out of your answer to that question. I can’t afford for my understanding or perception of Him to be based off someone else’s stories or things I’ve just heard about Him. I need it to come out of what the Holy Spirit reveals in the Word of God. So as we read together - ask Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of who God is to you so that you can come to know Him closer for yourself. Living a life of worship is all about really knowing God.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
